Theological Foundations for Leaders
Welcome to the Perimeter Church’s home page for Theological Foundation for Leaders (TFL). As the name indicates, TFL is a class designed to prepare leaders for ministry and is a key component in our leadership development process. I know of no other training that we offer that excels this class in content and personal impact. If you have a sense that God is calling you to discover your personal ministry (Eph. 2:10), this class is your next best step in the preparation process.
TFL is offered twice each year. During our Winter Session which usually begins the first week in January, we offer a Sunday morning and a Thursday evening class. The advantage of going through the Winter Session is that the Sunday and Thursday classes run concurrently so you have the choice of attending either class in a given week. The Winter Session is large group co-ed format.
We also offer TFL in small groups during the Summer each year. Summer classes typically start in late May or early June and, like the Winter Session, run for twelve weeks.

The class runs for twelve weeks and concludes with a final exam. During the course, participants work through weekly assignments outlined in a student manual and read a number of books including The Westminster Confession of Faith, The Covenant of Grace (Cummings), and The Five Points of Calvinism (Palmer). Portions of the PCA Book of Church Order and Berkhof's Summary of Christian Doctrine will also be used. During the class, we will cover all of the material using interaction and discussion rather than lecture. It will not be a simple response to fill-in-the-blank questions. However, to use this method, it is necessary that everyone faithfully complete all the work necessary for each class including listening to any audio CDs. Typically the class will require two and a half to three hours of preparation each week. As you can see by the books covered, the class will be rich and challenging.

Classes are taught by a variety of our staff pastors and ruling elders. While most of our classes are co-ed, we also offer classes for women only. These are taught by Cheryl Baker, Director of Women's Ministry and Discipleship.
